Farm & Feast Sunday @ Laurelbank Farm

  • Laurelbank Farm 121 Middle Road Ballynahinch, Northern Ireland, BT24 7LS United Kingdom (map)

Its officially Summer! The farm is looking green and lush! There’s lots to do, and plenty to harvest, plant, and weed! I’m excited to get stuck in with you all for another Farm & Feast Sunday gathering! Here’s the plan…

10am – Members arrive at Laurelbank Farm

Get settled and grab a cup of tea or coffee and a morning snack.

Once we all have all arrived and settled in The Gallery, I will explain the plan for the day. We have four main tasks to achieve - harvesting potatoes, planting out our wellies, getting the next batch of Autumn crops planted and the never ending but essential job of weeding!

10:45 – Farm Activities

Potato tyre stacks - It’s time to harvest our tyre stacks! The potatoes are ready and we have a plan for the beautifully decorated tyres that remain…

Re-filling the wellie boots & tyres - It’s time to brighten up the old concrete steps again by refreshing our wellie boot planters - a perfect job is for little hands! Clear out what remains in the wellies from last year, add some new compost and fill with violas, pot marigold and nasturtiums. (Feel free to bring along any old wellies you have at home too! )

A good old fashioned speed weed - There’s nothing more satisfying than clearing a bed of weeds. The bout of sunshine has helped along the weeds in the bottom beds, so we need your help to pluck them out! Pick a bed, grab a bucket and fill it as fast as you can. There’s a little prize for the person who successfully clears their bed first! (It might be a pot of home made jam…)

Radicchio - It’s time to start thinking about Autumn crops! We need your help planting out radicchio. It’s one of my favourite vegetables - I love its bitter peppery leaves, and it’s time to get the new crop in the ground!
